Outstanding Publication Awards

Nominations are now open for our six publication awards. The deadline for nominations is April 15.

SMT-40 Dissertation Fellowship

This yearly award, made possible by the SMT-40 campaign, is intended to recognize and foster excellent research in music theory by helping highly qualified Ph.D. students to complete their dissertations.

Student Presentation Award

We are happy to announce a new Student Presentation Award, given annually to a graduate or undergraduate music student for a scholarly presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Music Theory.

Subvention Grants

Subvention grants reimburse scholars for the expenses associated with publications and organizing conferences.

Subventions for Events at the Annual Meeting

Each year the Annual Meeting Grants considers special funding requests from standing committees and interest groups for activities held at the SMT Annual Meeting.

Annual Meeting Travel Grants

The SMT provides funding to certain eligible groups to travel to the annual meeting, listed below.

Accessibility Travel Grant

Available to those SMT members whose attendance at the Annual Meeting incurs extra disability-related expenses.

Family Care Grants

Available to those SMT members whose attendance at the Annual Meeting incurs extra family care expenses. This grant is available only to current SMT members.

Independent, Unsupported, or Undersupported Scholar Travel Grant

Available to those who do not have academic positions, or who study or teach at institutions that do not support scholarly conference attendance.

International Travel Grants

Available to non-US and non-Canadian citizens who reside outside of the United States and Canada.

Minority Travel Grants

Available to individuals belonging to an underrepresented ethnic minority group and who are citizens of, or currently residing in, the US or Canada.
